As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Iowa has disclosed a potential data breach that may have exposed information belonging to certain current and former patients. On August 26, 2024, the hospital identified suspicious activity within its computer network and launched an investigation with cybersecurity specialists' help.
The investigation discovered unauthorized access to parts of the network from August 14 to August 28, 2024, with files possibly accessed or downloaded without permission. The hospital is conducting a review to identify what information was compromised and who may be affected. Once the review is complete, individuals impacted by the St. Anthony Regional Hospital data breach will be notified by mail. The data at risk could include names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, financial information, and medical details, such as diagnoses and treatment information.
St. Anthony Regional Hospital has also reported the data breach to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which indicates that it involved the protected health information of 500 or more individuals.
