Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Loretto Hospital data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Loretto Hospital Security Incident: What Happened?
On April 4, 2025, Loretto Hospital, located in Chicago, reported a data breach to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
According to an online notice of the data breach, the hospital identified suspicious network activity, prompting an investigation. It was determined that an unknown party accessed and copied files between January 17 and February 1, 2025. Additionally, data input into the electronic medical records system between February 2 and 3, 2025, was lost, though efforts were made to recover or recreate patient records.
The review of files compromised in the Loretto Hospital data breach is still in progress, and affected individuals will be notified once the review concludes, the hospital stated.
While it is not yet known what type of data was exposed, it should be noted that data breaches involving unsecured protected health information must be reported to the HHS Secretary.
What You Can Do
If your information was exposed in the data breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Loretto Hospital to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
