Laboratory Services Cooperative Data Breach: Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Laboratory Services Cooperative data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted or who visited one of the affected Planned Parenthood centers and had lab tests performed or referred.
Laboratory Services Cooperative Security Incident: What Happened?
Laboratory Services Cooperative (LSC), which provides lab testing services to Planned Parenthood centers in 30 states and the District of Columbia, reported that as many as 1.6 million people may have been affected by a late 2024 data breach.
On October 27, 2024, LSC detected suspicious activity within its network, leading to an investigation by third-party cybersecurity experts and notification to federal authorities. The breach allowed an unauthorized third party to access and remove certain files from Laboratory Services Cooperative's network. By February 2025, LSC's review revealed that patient and worker information may have been exposed.
The data compromised in the Laboratory Services Cooperative data breach varies by individual but may include names and contact details; medical and clinical information, including dates of service, diagnoses, treatment details, medical record numbers, lab results, provider names, and treatment locations; health insurance information; billing and payment data, including bank account and payment card details; and additional identifiers such as dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers and other forms of ID.
For workers, the compromised data may also include dependent or beneficiary information if it was provided to the company. Laboratory Services Cooperative says it plans to directly notify affected current and former workers if their contact information is available.
A website notice about the LSC data breach notes that the company provides lab services to select Planned Parenthood centers in certain states, a list of which can be found in the FAQ section of the website. Individuals who visited a Planned Parenthood center and had lab tests performed or were referred for lab tests are encouraged to call Laboratory Services Cooperative's call center at 1-855-549-2662 to find out if their information may have been affected.
What You Can Do
If your information was exposed in the data breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
