Business Insurance Services Security Incident: What Happened?
On April 9, 2025, Hawaii-based Business Insurance Services, Inc. announced a data breach involving unauthorized access to its network, potentially affecting personal information of certain customers.
The company discovered potential unauthorized access to its computer systems on June 10, 2024. Steps were taken to secure the network, and cybersecurity experts were engaged to investigate. It was revealed that the Business Insurance Services data breach initially occurred on December 14, 2023, with further unauthorized access and data acquisition on March 26 and 27, 2024.
The data compromised varies by individual and includes names, Social Security numbers, government IDs, and financial details such as bank account and payment card numbers. Letters are being mailed to affected individuals whose addresses were available.
Business Insurance Services, Inc., with offices in Honolulu, Kauai, Maui and Hilo, offers both personal and commercial insurance products and is one of Hawaii's largest independent insurance agencies.
