Special Health Resources Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Special Health Resources data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
On June 1, 2024, Special Health Resources of Texas, Inc. discovered a data security incident potentially affecting the protected health information of a limited number of patients. Special Health Resources, a health care system that operates in East Texas and Southwest Arkansas, initiated an internal investigation and engaged independent cybersecurity specialists to determine the nature and scope of the breach.
Preliminary findings indicate that an unauthorized actor briefly accessed a limited number of the company’s systems, compromising a small amount of patient health data. The investigation remains ongoing, and Special Health Resources plans to mail notification letters to affected individuals as more information becomes available.
The Special Health Resources of Texas, Inc. data breach was reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on July 30, 2024, and has been categorized as a hacking/IT incident. Companies governed by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) are required to report data breaches involving protected health information to the HHS secretary.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Special Health Resources to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
