Financial Plus Credit Union Security Incident: What Happened?
Financial Plus Credit Union has announced a security breach involving its third-party vendor, Doxim Inc., which manages the preparation of account statements for the credit union's members.
A report from the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation states that the breach impacted at least the Social Security numbers and financial account information of Financial Plus Credit Union members. The credit union announced on its website that affected members will receive notification letters (a sample of which can be viewed below) from Doxim containing further details of the breach.
According to a notice submitted to the New Hampshire attorney general in July 2024, the Doxim data breach occurred between December 25 and December 30, 2023, when unusual activity was detected within the portion of the company's computer systems supporting credit union services. Upon detecting this activity, the vendor took affected systems offline, alerted law enforcement and engaged cybersecurity specialists to perform an investigation. Initial findings from the investigation confirmed that certain files had been removed from Doxim's network, including files that contained personal information of credit union members.
