The Rehabilitation Hospital of Southern California, LLC recently fell victim to a data security breach that compromised the personal and medical information of certain patients. The hospital was first alerted to unusual activity in its IT systems on February 1, 2024 and found that unauthorized access occurred between January 16 and February 4, 2024.
An investigation revealed that an unauthorized party managed to access files containing patient information, including names, addresses, dates of birth, medical record numbers, health insurance plan member IDs, claims data, diagnoses, and prescription information. In some cases, Social Security and driver's license numbers were also compromised in the Rehabilitation Hospital of Southern California data breach.
To notify potentially affected individuals of the incident, the hospital started mailing letters to patients on March 29, 2024.
