PARS Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the PARS data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Phase II Systems, which does business as Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS), has disclosed a significant data security incident resulting from a phishing attack. The breach allowed unauthorized access to an employee's email account, potentially compromising the personal information of clients. PARS, which specializes in retirement plans for public agencies, secured the affected account and launched a detailed investigation with the assistance of external cybersecurity experts.
The investigation revealed that the compromised email account was accessed between March 11 and March 14, 2024. Individuals whose current or former employers were PARS clients and had their information exposed in the data breach are now being sent written notification. A sample notice provided to the California attorney general's office (seen below) indicates that these letters will specify the type of data exposed for each individual impacted by the PARS data breach.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force PARS to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
