Octapharma Plasma Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Octapharma Plasma data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who believe they may have been impacted.
Octapharma Plasma, the U.S.-based arm of a Swiss pharmaceutical company that manufactures human protein, recently reported that its U.S. plasma donation centers were impacted by "suspicious activity" on the company's network. Though an April 29 update on Octapharma's website divulged no further details aside from informing stakeholders that its donation centers had all reopened since the incident, an Australian cyber news outlet reported on April 24 that ransomware gang BlackSuit had claimed responsibility for the Octapharma Plasma data breach.
According to the CyberDaily article, BlackSuit posted details about the hack on its dark web leak site, including a list of potentially compromised information. The group reportedly claimed to have stolen Social Security numbers, addresses and dates of birth belonging to living and dead Octapharma donors. Employees may have also had their passport data and medical information stolen in the ransomware incident, and laboratory data and information from individual donor centers may have also been involved.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Octapharma Plasma to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
