Avis Data Breach:
Legal Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether legal action can be taken in light of the Avis data breach.
On August 5, 2024, Avis Rent A Car System LLC discovered that an unauthorized third party had breached one of its business applications, potentially exposing the personal information of nearly 300,000 people. The company moved to halt the unauthorized access, initiated an investigation with the help of cybersecurity experts, and notified relevant authorities. The investigation revealed that the Avis Rent A Car System data breach occurred between August 3 and August 6, 2024.
A report submitted to the Iowa Attorney General’s Office indicated that the unauthorized party may have obtained Avis customers’ names, mailing and email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, and credit card numbers with expiration dates.
The attorneys are now gathering affected Avis customers to take action via mass arbitration, which is different from a class action lawsuit. Though nothing is guaranteed, it's possible that those who sign up could be entitled to hundreds of dollars under state and federal privacy laws.
