Comcast Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the data breach impacting Comcast.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were affected.
Comcast Cable Communications, LLC reported a data security incident involving a former third-party service provider, Financial Business and Consumer Solutions (FBCS).
On March 13, 2024, FBCS informed Comcast of a data breach incident, initially stating that no Comcast consumer data was affected. However, on July 17, 2024, FBCS reported updated findings indicating that Comcast data had been impacted. FBCS revealed that from February 14 to February 26, 2024, an unauthorized party accessed its computer network, downloading data and encrypting some systems in a ransomware attack. After discovering the breach on February 26, 2024, FBCS launched an investigation with third-party cybersecurity specialists, revealing that the compromised files contained personal information, including data related to Comcast customers.
FBCS’s investigation revealed that files accessed by the unauthorized party contained individuals’ names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, Comcast account numbers and ID numbers used internally at FBCS.
According to Comcast’s letter to affected individuals, FBCS obtained their personal information while offering collections-related services to Comcast for delinquent payments. Although Comcast ended its partnership with FBCS in 2020, FBCS retained the information due to data retention requirements.
The data breach affecting Comcast involved information dating back to around 2021 and has reportedly impacted 237,703 individuals.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Comcast to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
