Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Security Incident: What Happened?
Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center of Ogdensburg, New York and Carthage Area Hospital of Carthage, New York were impacted by a data breach that involved unauthorized access and acquisition of files from their network on August 31, 2023. An investigation, aided by third-party cybersecurity experts, revealed on September 6, 2023, that personal and health information, including names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, medical data, insurance information, and diagnoses, were compromised.
Though affected individuals were initially informed on November 1, 2023 via letter and notices posted on the hospitals' respective websites, further investigation determined on January 27, 2025 that additional files were accessed in the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center and Carthage Area Hospital data breach. Claxton-Hepburn is now sending direct notice to the individuals whose data was contained in the additional files.
