Carnegie Mellon Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Carnegie Mellon data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
On August 25, 2023, Carnegie Mellon University’s (CMU) Information Security Office noticed suspicious activity on one of its computer systems. The university initiated an investigation and recovery process, which found that an unauthorized third party accessed a CMU computer system and may have extracted files containing personal information.
The breach has reportedly impacted over 7,300 individuals, potentially exposing their names, Social Security numbers and dates of birth.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Carnegie Mellon to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
