Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute (PCLI) recently experienced a data breach that exposed some patient information. Between November 13 and 14, 2023, an unauthorized actor accessed certain systems containing personal and protected health information of a yet unspecified number of patients. The breach did not involve the electronic medical record system. The types of information exposed may include medical treatment details, health insurance and claims information, financial account information, driver's license details, names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers. PCLI is notifying affected individuals by mail.
DataBreaches.net reported in December 2023 that ransomware group LockBit claimed responsibility for the PCLI data breach, but it was unclear whether the ransom was paid.
