New Era Life Insurance Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the New Era Life Insurance data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
New Era Enterprises, Inc., which includes New Era Life Insurance Company, New Era Life Insurance Company of the Midwest, Philadelphia American Life Insurance Company and Life of America Insurance Company, has reported a data breach affecting individuals' personal data.
The New Era data breach took place from December 9 to December 18, 2024, and suspicious activity during this time period prompted the company to activate its incident response protocols. An investigation concluded that an unauthorized individual accessed the network and copied files containing sensitive data related to policyholders, agents, and insurance carrier partners. By January 31, 2025, the analysis of affected data was completed. New Era Life Insurance is currently distributing notification letters to those whose data was compromised, provided it has sufficient contact information.
According to a document submitted to the Maine Attorney General's Office, data exposed for policyholders and beneficiaries may include names, addresses, dates of birth, health insurance policy numbers, Medicare ID numbers, data related to treatment and diagnoses, and Social Security numbers. Independent agents and employees may have had their names and Social Security numbers put at risk. Financial account numbers for agents were also reportedly found in the compromised files.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force New Era Life Insurance to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
