Laundromat Lux and its owner have been hit with a proposed collective action filed over allegedly unpaid minimum and overtime wages.

Laundromat Lux and its owner have been hit with a proposed collective action filed over allegedly unpaid minimum and overtime wages.
Behind the lawsuit is a former employee who worked as a washer and folder at the Manhattan laundromat from June 2016 to October 2018. The plaintiff alleges the defendants maintained a “common policy” of not paying her appropriately for all hours worked, resulting in an effective pay rate that fell below the required minimum wage. Moreover, according to the case, the plaintiff regularly put in over 40 hours each week without proper time-and-a-half overtime wages.
The suit goes on to allege the woman was not paid her due wages for three months in 2018. More specifically, she received $300 to $350 for weeks in which she was owed $450 to $455, the case says, and was not paid at all for one week of work.
The complaint goes on to charge that the defendants “habitually required” the woman to work past her scheduled departure time for no pay and, during her last three months of employment, deducted $100 to $150 from her weekly wages with no explanation. The suit also says the plaintiff did not receive uninterrupted meal breaks or paystubs throughout her employment.
