Turtle Bay Cleaners, Knickerbocker Cleaners and the laundry services’ owner and manager face a lawsuit filed by a former employee over allegedly unpaid wages.
New York
Turtle Bay Cleaners, Knickerbocker Cleaners and the Manhattan laundry services’ owner and manager face a proposed collective action filed by a former employee who claims he was deprived of proper wages.
The plaintiff regularly clocked at least 57 and up to 72 hours per week for the companies between March 2014 and November 2018 while working as a packer and deliveryman, the suit says. According to the case, the man was paid a fixed weekly salary between $320 and $360, which meant his pay rates fell well below the federal minimum and time-and-a-half overtime wage thresholds.
Further, the plaintiff alleges he was inappropriately required to punch out five minutes before his actual departure time, meaning he was not paid for all time worked. Lastly, the suit claims that the man was “seldom granted” uninterrupted breaks and was not reimbursed for rainboots, umbrellas and other work equipment he purchased out of pocket for the job.
