The operators of East River Cleaners have been hit with a lawsuit in which a delivery worker claims he was deprived of lawful minimum and overtime wages.
New York
The operators of East River Cleaners have been hit with a proposed collective action in which a delivery worker claims he was deprived of lawful minimum and overtime wages.
The plaintiff alleges that he typically clocks 66 hours per week at the Manhattan laundry service for a fixed weekly salary of $600. According to the suit, the man’s pay never changed when he was required to stay later or work longer than usual. For instance, the case says the plaintiff is typically required to work an additional 30 minutes past his scheduled departure time several days a week without any additional pay. As a result of these pay practices, the complaint says, the plaintiff hasn’t been compensated for all time spent working and his effective hourly rate regularly falls below the statutory minimum wage.
