New York
A former employee of Brooklyn slaughterhouse Bay Ridge Live Poultry has filed a proposed collective action over allegedly unpaid minimum, overtime and spread-of-hours wages.
The lawsuit names as defendants Beit AlMaqdis Live Poultry Mkt Inc. and three individuals with control of the business. According to the suit, the plaintiff regularly worked between 61 and 66 hours each week without any breaks for a fixed salary that did not vary depending on the amount of time worked.
“Defendants habitually required [the plaintiff] to work additional hours beyond his regular shifts but did not provide him with any additional compensation,” the case alleges.
Moreover, the case claims the defendants failed to maintain any time-keeping records or issue accurate wage statements.
