What Is the Clif Bar Settlement About?
A settlement has been reached to resolve a proposed class action lawsuit that alleged certain label statements on original Clif Bars and Clif Kid ZBars misled consumers as to the nutritional value of the products, which contain high amounts of added sugar.
Who Qualifies for the Clif Bar Settlement?
The $12 million Clif Bar class action settlement covers anyone who purchased (for household use and not for resale) original Clif Bars in packaging that bears the phrase “Nutrition for Sustained Energy” and/or Clif Kid ZBars in packaging that features certain health claims challenged by the lawsuit.
The Clif Bar deal covers consumers nationwide who bought the products between March 31, 2019 and March 31, 2023. Consumers in California and New York have a longer window for their purchases and are covered for those made between April 19, 2014 and March 31, 2023.
Which Products Are Included in the Clif Bar Settlement?
The settlement covers original Clif Bars with labeling or packaging that bears the phrase “Nutrition for Sustained Energy.” The settlement also includes Clif Kid ZBars in packaging that features statements such as “No High Fructose Corn Syrup,” “Nourishing Kids in Motion,” and “ […] blend of carbs, fiber, protein, and fat gives kids energy so they can keep Zipping and Zooming along,” among other health claims. Is the Clif Bar Class Action Settlement Legit?
Yes. The settlement is legitimate, and a court-approved website—BarsClassAction.com—has been established to inform consumers about the deal and provide a platform where they can submit a Clif Bar settlement claim form, learn about the lawsuit and contact the settlement administrator.
How Much Could My Clif Bar Settlement Payout Be?
Eligible Clif Bar class members, regardless of whether they provide proof of purchase, may receive a payout of $5 if they bought up to 30 bars, $10 if they bought between 31 and 60 bars and $15 if they purchased more than 60 bars.
Individuals who provide proof of purchase with their claim form may receive $15 for the first 60 bars, plus $0.25 for each additional bar, with a cap of up to $50.
The settlement website notes that all Clif Bar payments are subject to a potential increase or decrease depending on the total number of valid claims that are filed.
In addition to monetary settlement benefits, Clif Bar & Company has also agreed to modify the products’ labeling and abstain from using certain nutritional statements for at least two years.

You can file a Clif Bar claim form online on this page or download a PDF claim form to print and submit by mail. The settlement website points out that only one claim form may be filed per household.
When’s the Claim Deadline?
Clif Bar claim forms must be filed no later than November 25, 2024.
When Would I Get Paid?
Clif Bar settlement payments will not be issued until the court decides whether to grant final approval to the settlement.
A final approval hearing is scheduled for November 14, 2024. It is typically after a class action settlement receives final approval from the court (and any potential appeals are resolved) that class members will get paid.
What Was the Clif Bar Class Action Lawsuit About?
The Clif Bar class action lawsuit, filed in April 2018, alleged that Clif Bar & Company marketed its energy bars with label claims that misleadingly touted a variety of nutritional benefits in order to entice health-conscious consumers.
The suit charged that the products, contrary to their healthful representations, contain an excessive amount of sugar—with as much as 37 percent of the calories in one Clif Bar or Clif Kid ZBar coming from added sugar alone, the case stressed.
According to the complaint, the alleged misrepresentations tricked consumers into purchasing Clif Bars they would not have bought had they known the products were not nearly as nutritious as advertised.
