The Storage Genius, Inc. and an individual owner have been named in a proposed collective action in which a former employee claims he was denied overtime wages and eventually fired in retaliation for complaining about their alleged pay practices.
According to the case, the defendants sell and install “all kinds of warehousing and storage systems, fixtures, and equipment." The plaintiff says he worked for the defendants as a laborer/installer from November 2017 to May 2018, a period of 24 weeks during which he says he put in approximately 60 hours per week. According to the lawsuit, the defendants paid the plaintiff his straight-time hourly rate of $11.00 for all hours worked without paying him time-and-a-half overtime premiums for every hour worked over 40 each week. The plaintiff allegedly complained to management regarding the supposed lack of overtime pay and was fired a few days later in retaliation for voicing his complaints, the suit says. The man claims he is still owed his last paycheck, an amount totaling $825.00.
