The owner of Playwright Irish Pub is on the receiving end of a lawsuit filed by a former employee who claims he was deprived of proper wages.
The owner of Playwright Irish Pub is on the receiving end of a lawsuit filed by a former employee who claims he was deprived of proper wages.
The plaintiff alleges he worked 48 hours each week as a busser at the Miami Beach pub from January 2013 to June 2018 for a monthly salary of $452, plus tips. Broken down, the lawsuit explains, the man “worked approximately 207.84 hours per month, and was paid $425.00 dollars a month, or an average of $2.04 per hour.” As such, the case argues the defendant violated the minimum and overtime wage provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
The suit further claims the plaintiff was misclassified as an independent contractor exempt from FLSA protections, and that he has yet to receive any wages for his last four months of employment.
