A former medical assistant has filed suit against Doctors Center Management Corporation and University Physician Associates of New Jersey, Inc. claiming the defendants failed to pay her proper overtime wages. The plaintiff says she worked for the defendants as an hourly paid employee between June 2015 and October 2017 and was scheduled to work 42.5 hours per week with one 30-minute meal break per day. According to the complaint, however, she was rarely able to take an uninterrupted break and was also required to work three or four hours every other Saturday. Despite knowing the plaintiff worked these extra hours, the suit says, the defendants allegedly failed to pay her a time-and-a-half overtime premium for the hours she worked above 40 in violation of state and federal labor laws.
