National General Insurance Agency, Inc. is facing a proposed collective action filed by a former employee who claims the defendant failed to pay her proper overtime wages. The plaintiff says she worked for the insurance company as a sales representative and was paid $12 per hour plus commissions she earned selling insurance products. According to the suit, she worked between 40 and 50 hours per week but was never paid time-and-a-half overtime wages in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. Furthermore, the complaint claims the defendant would “shave off” from employees’ records the time they spent working before their first call and after their last call each day, thereby robbing them of earned compensation.
