A proposed class and collective action was filed in July of this year against BJ Inspections, Inc. claiming the oilfield service company failed to pay its employees proper overtime wages. The plaintiff in the suit, who currently works for the defendant as a utility inspector, says he and similarly situated employees are required to work 12-hour shifts, seven days per week, for weeks at a time without receiving overtime wages. These workers, according to the complaint, mostly perform manual labor and are not responsible for the supervision or management of other employees. The suit argues that the defendant’s day-rate wage agreement with its employees is illegal under the Fair Labor Standards Act and claims they are owed overtime pay.
