A proposed class action has been filed against the operating company of several Popeye’s restaurants in Florida by a former worker who claims he and other employees were not paid properly. The plaintiff in the case says he was hired as a back-of-the-house worker and often worked more than 40 hours per week without receiving time-and-a-half overtime pay. He claims that after a period of time the defendant capped employees’ hours at 30 per week but would often require them to perform work “off the clock” before, during, or after their shifts without paying them for the additional time they spent working. As a result, the case alleges, employees are owed unpaid straight-time and overtime wages for any hours they worked without proper compensation.
