New Jersey-based New Illuzion Sushi Inc. and an individual owner are facing claims that they failed to pay their employees proper wages. The plaintiff says he worked at the restaurant, which the case notes is also known as Illuzion or Illuzion Japanese Cuisine, as a delivery driver from May 2016 to August 2017 without being paid minimum and overtime wages in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and New Jersey state law. He allegedly spent 69 hours per week working for the defendants and was paid $50 per day regardless of how many hours he worked.
Even further, the suit claims the defendants failed to reimburse the plaintiff for “tools of the trade,” including a $6.50 daily toll, about $25.00 per day for gas, and parking tickets that totaled $502.00. The plaintiff says he received only $6.00 per day as reimbursement for these expenses.
