Pollard v. Hank's Furniture Inc et al
Filed: December 7, 2018 ◆§ 4:18cv907
An ex-employee claims that Hank’s Furniture did not pay proper wages and discriminated against him over complications stemming from his Parkinson’s disease.
Arkansas
A lawsuit claims that Hank’s Furniture, Inc. and the company’s owner did not pay a former employee for all hours worked and discriminated against the man over complications stemming from his Parkinson’s disease.
The suit says the defendants, who operate several furniture stores in and around Arkansas, hired the plaintiff as a salesperson in September 2012 at their North Little Rock location. The plaintiff alleges he regularly put in over 40 hours each week without proper time-and-a-half overtime pay. Additionally, the case claims the man and other employees were often required to attend sales meetings and other training sessions for no compensation at all.
Regarding the plaintiff’s health, the complaint says the defendants failed to offer any reasonable accommodations, such as alternative job duties or mobility aids. Just one month after being prescribed a walking cane in July 2017, the man was allegedly fired due to his physical limitations, a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
