Florida
A former employee of the Schmengie Corporation has filed suit against the company and its CEO after they allegedly failed to pay her proper minimum and overtime wages. The plaintiff says she worked as a server at the defendants’ restaurant – Grainger’s Grille – from June 2016 to December 2016 and was paid $10 per shift, regardless of how many hours each shift lasted. According to the complaint, the plaintiff was compensated “under the table,” meaning the defendants paid her in cash and neglected to withhold federal and state taxes from her wages. The suit seeks to recover unpaid wages and require the defendants to correct the “fraudulent information returns” sent to the IRS during the plaintiff’s employment.
