Four Florida Dog Sellers Hit with Unpaid Overtime Lawsuit

Inda v. Royalty Puppies Llc et al
Filed: November 20, 2018 ◆§ 1:18cv24855
A former employee of Royalty Puppies has sued the company and four others to recover allegedly unpaid overtime wages.
Florida
Royalty Puppies, Puppies For Sale, Imperial Puppies and Luxury Puppies face a lawsuit wherein a former employee claims the dog sellers paid her half-time rather than time-and-a-half wages for weekly overtime work.
Filed in Florida, the lawsuit states the plaintiff worked for the defendants from August through November 2018 for an hourly rate plus a commission for every dog sold. In addition to her claims of unpaid overtime, the plaintiff alleges she received no commissions—at either the agreed upon two percent rate for list price or 30 percent rate for dogs sold above list price—after the first month of her employment.
All told, the plaintiff claims the four defendants and their owner purposely made payroll arrangements to pay her for 33 hours of work per week with the rest of her hours to be compensated in cash. According to the case, this was done to “avoid the appearance of overtime wages on the payroll companies’ documents.”
