A former employee of K & C Interior Construction Corp. has filed suit against the construction company and an individual owner claiming he is owed unpaid wages. The plaintiff, who allegedly worked for the defendants as a carpenter, says he was paid a day rate of $160 and worked about 48 hours per week. According to the complaint, the defendants paid him by check for his first 40 hours of work and by cash for the rest, attempting to “disguise the fact that he was working overtime.”
The plaintiff claims he complained to his supervisor regarding the lack of overtime pay and a promised raise he says he never received, but the defendants allegedly responded by stopping payment on his last two paychecks. He claims he was not paid at all for his final four weeks of work and was not permitted to return to the job site to retrieve his tools, which he estimates were worth $1,500.
