Filed: September 18, 2018 ◆§ 1:18cv5243
A former baker for Royal Sweet Bakery alleges he was paid at a rate below the required minimum wage and deprived of proper overtime compensation.
A former baker for Royal Sweet Bakery, Inc. has filed a lawsuit against the company and its individual owner alleging he was paid at a rate below the required minimum wage and deprived of proper overtime compensation.
The man was employed from 2006 to April 2018 at the Brooklyn bakery, where he worked 72 hours per week during winter months and 50 hours per week during the summer without appropriate pay, the suit says. During his tenure, the plaintiff was compensated with an hourly rate between $8 and $9, which was below the state-mandated minimum wage, the case alleges.
Further, the plaintiff claims he did not receive time-and-a-half pay for overtime hours worked nor spread-of-hours pay for shifts exceeding 10 hours. In addition, the suit charges the defendants did not issue a proper wage notice upon hiring the plaintiff and failed to maintain proper payroll records throughout his employment.
