Florida
A former employee of Sunnygrove Landscape & Irrigation Maintenance, LLC has filed suit against the company over claims that she wasn’t properly paid. The case argues that the plaintiff and other employees were not paid premium time-and-a-half wages for hours they worked over 40 each week as mandated by the Fair Labor Standards Act. The plaintiff says she performed non-exempt lawn maintenance work for the defendant between March 2017 and February 2018 and was paid $12.00 per hour. She claims she was not compensated for some of her work because her employer automatically deducted 30 minutes per day for lunch breaks she never took, and required her to continue working after she clocked out. The woman also claims her supervisor reduced her overtime hours for cleanup work in the wake of Hurricane Irma, thereby violating the defendant’s obligation to keep accurate time records of employees’ hours.
