Bell v. 1220 Management Group, LLC et al
Filed: July 5, 2017 ◆§ 1:17-cv-22479-DPG
Four proposed class actions filed in one day allege 1220 Management Group and two other defendants ran an illegal tip pool and shorted workers' wages.
Florida
Four separate proposed class action lawsuits were filed on July 5 against 1220 Management Group, LLC, MH Employment Services, LLC, and one individual—which collectively do business as Bodega Taquira Y Tequila Bar in Miami Beach—over allegations that tipped employees who’ve worked for the parties within the last three years have not been paid proper wages due to illegal tip pooling.
The lawsuits’ individual plaintiffs, the complaints read, were all fired—one on August 10, 2016 and three on March 13, 2017—from their bartending positions for questioning the defendants’ allegedly illegal pay practices. Each case alleges the defendants illegally took tip money from proposed class members and improperly shared the funds with employees who don’t customarily receive tips, such as managers and kitchen staff.
