A proposed class action filed in California against United Natural Foods, United Natural Foods West, and UNFI in September 2018 over alleged violations of state labor laws has been removed to federal court.
The plaintiff, who worked for the defendants from April 2016 to March 2018, alleges he was deprived of proper minimum and overtime wages, as well as double-time pay for shifts exceeding 12 hours.
Additionally, the case claims the company failed to grant the plaintiff and similarly situated workers meal and rest periods or provide premium pay in lieu of missed breaks as required by the California Labor Code. The man further alleges that he was not paid all due wages within 72 hours of his resignation. Lastly, the suit adds allegations of improper recordkeeping, inaccurate wage statements, and the failure to reimburse employees for business expenses.
