In California, a number of workers classified as independent contractors have filed a lawsuit against MapleBear, Inc., which operates as Instacart. According to the suit, Instacart provides a grocery shopping and delivery service. It hires shoppers, drivers and delivery persons to delivery groceries from Whole Foods, Costco, Safeway to customers. The suit claims these workers were misclassified as independent contractors despite the fact that Instacart controlled how they performed their jobs. Plaintiff say they were deprived of minimum wage and overtime in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
