Thomas v. Rite of Passage Incorporated
Filed: January 18, 2017 ◆§ 2:17-cv-00169-DKD
An Arizona woman formerly employed as a 'group leader' by Rite of Passage, Inc. has filed a proposed class action against the government-subsidized juvenile home.
An Arizona woman formerly employed as a “group leader” by Rite of Passage, Inc. has filed a proposed class action against the government-subsidized juvenile home claiming she and similarly situated employees are owed unpaid overtime, including for time spent working overnight shifts.
The juvenile home, which operates as Canyon State Academy, allegedly unlawfully chose to pay individuals employed as “coach counselors” overtime wages while declining the same wage rights to those working as “group leaders” even though both had similar job duties. The plaintiff says she worked at least 48 hours per week, not counting the overnight shift she was required to work, without overtime pay.
