The operating entity of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Pennsylvania Democratic Committee has been hit with a class action suit over alleged violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and state labor laws. Filed in Pennsylvania, the complaint against defendant DNC Services Corporation seeks to recover unpaid overtime wages for those employed as “Organizers” responsible for assisting with voter registration, coordinating the DNC’s “ground game,” soliciting volunteers and handing out paperwork. The lawsuit claims organizers regularly worked in excess of 80 to 90 hours per week without receiving FLSA-mandated time-and-a-half overtime pay for each hour worked over 40.
The case covers a proposed class of individuals who work or used to work as DNC organizers within the last three years, as well as a subclass of individuals who held the same role within Pennsylvania within the last three years.
