Jung Sik Dang, Corp., the owning and operating entity of two Michelin star-rated New York restaurant Jungsik, and its namesake superstar chef Jung Sik Yim are the defendants in a proposed class action filed over allegedly illegal wage practices. The restaurant, which the lawsuit says charges customers $190 to taste its “New Korean” cuisine, allegedly unlawfully forced tipped service employees to share and pool their tips with managers and tip-ineligible back-of-the-house workers. As a result of the defendants allegedly applying a tip credit to servers’ pay, the workers’ wages fell below the minimum benchmark required by federal and state labor laws.
