A former car cleaner for Sparkles Car Wash & Quick Lube has filed suit against the business’ operating company and an individual owner claiming he and other employees were not paid wages in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. The man says he worked approximately 72 hours per week but didn’t receive premium time-and-a-half wages for the hours he worked above 40. In fact, the suit alleges, the plaintiff’s checks understated the number of hours he worked “to create the appearance” that the defendants were complying with labor laws.
The suit further argues that the plaintiff and others weren’t provided with wage notices at their time of hire or spread-of-hours pay for each hour they worked above 10 in a day.
