Dollar General Corp. and two subsidiaries are on the receiving end of proposed class action filed out of Illinois that claims the defendants failed to pay proper wages.
Dollar General Corp. and two subsidiaries are on the receiving end of proposed class action filed out of Illinois that claims the defendants illegally required employees to work “off the clock” without compensation. The plaintiffs, who all worked for Dollar General as assistant managers or lead sales associates, allege that their store managers forced them to work before and after their scheduled shifts without pay in order to minimize labor costs. They further claim that 30-minute meal periods were deducted from their daily hours, regardless of whether they actually stopped working during the breaks. According to the complaint:
“The net effect of Dollar General's common plan, policy and practice of not paying Plaintiffs and class members for all work performed, including all overtime work performed, was a scheme to save payroll costs and payroll taxes and stay within its budgeted labor cost for each of its stores, all for which it has unjustly enriched itself and enjoyed ill gained profits at the expense of Plaintiffs and other members of the class.”
