Chung Chou City I, Inc., N.Y. Chung Chou City, LLC and the companies’ owners are the defendants in a class action filed by former grocery store sales clerks who claim they’re owed unpaid overtime wages under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The defendants, operators of two Asian grocery stores in Manhattan, allegedly failed to pay the plaintiffs at the time-and-a-half hourly rate for all hours worked over 40 in a week. The plaintiffs claim they routinely worked more than nine hours per day for fixed monthly salaries that never varied based on how many hours they worked. Both plaintiffs, the lawsuit mentions, worked for the defendants for more than 10 years.
