Filed: March 21, 2017 ◆§ 1:17-cv-02049
Next Cleaners NY1, LLC, Next Cleaners, LLC, and Next at 808 Columbus, Inc., are the defendants in a lawsuit along with a chief executive, an owner, and a manager.
Next Cleaners NY1, LLC, Next Cleaners, LLC, and Next at 808 Columbus, Inc., which operate more than 20 laundromats and dry cleaners in New York and New Jersey, are the defendants in a proposed class action along with a chief executive, an owner, and a manager. The suit is brought by two plaintiffs, employed as bicycle drivers and store clerks, who claim the defendants denied them their due minimum, overtime, and spread-of-hours wages and failed to provide them with proper wage statements. The plaintiffs claim they were paid a flat weekly rate at the beginning of their employment that was below the minimum wage required by law. Though their employer allegedly raised their wages after the first six months of employment, they were expected to work upward of 60 hours per week without receiving the proper time-and-a-half overtime compensation, according to the complaint. The plaintiffs also claim they were not provided with weekly paystubs to record their wages and hours. Citing alleged violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act and New York state law, the suit seeks injunctive relief, as well as monetary relief for the proposed class members.
