Carpetorium, Inc. and its day-to-day manager are the defendants in a proposed class action claiming employees were not paid proper overtime, minimum, or spread-of-hours wages. Filed in New York district court, the lawsuit claims the plaintiff, who was employed as a manual laborer by the residential and commercial furniture company until February 2016, worked in excess of 40 hours a week—sometimes working between 84 and 96 hours a week—during virtually every week of his employment without being paid time-and-a-half overtime. Further, the plaintiff says that during the six days a week he worked for the defendants, which amounted to an average of 14 hours per day, he was often not permitted to take scheduled or uninterrupted breaks.
