Current and former caddies have filed a lawsuit against the Garden City Golf Club claiming they were classified as neither independent contractors nor employees.
Current and former caddies have filed a class action lawsuit against the Garden City Golf Club claiming they were classified as neither independent contractors nor employees and therefore “deprived of basic rights guaranteed to all employees”—overtime and minimum wages, among them—under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). According to the complaint, as many as 70 caddies claim they routinely worked more than 40 hours a week without time-and-a-half overtime pay. Additionally, the defendant allegedly failed to keep accurate records of employees’ hours worked each day.
