A man formerly employed as a salad and soup maker by kosher butcher shop I & D Glatt has sued the company and its owners to recover allegedly unpaid overtime and spread-of-hours pay. The plaintiff, who the case says worked for the defendants from January 2014 through May 2017, claims he typically worked 61 hours per week without being paid time-and-a-half wages for all hours worked over 40, nor spread-of-hours pay owed under New York law for shifts lasting longer than 10 hours in a day.
The cases notes an example of the defendants’ allegedly illegal wage practices, describing an incident when the plaintiff was asked to work “an additional two to three hours after his shift on Jewish holidays” without proper overtime.
