Two former employees have filed a proposed class action against Area Wide Protective, Inc. (which does business as AWP, Inc.) claiming the traffic control and safety services company failed to pay workers proper overtime wages for off-the-clock work. The plaintiffs, who worked for the defendants as a traffic control specialists until August 2016, allege they and similarly situated workers were not allowed to clock in until they arrived at the job site to which they were assigned. Despite not being clocked in, the defendant allegedly required proposed class members to work, with a similar policy in place for post-shift work done after employees had already clocked out. Further, the plaintiffs say they were not compensated for time spent traveling to and from job sites.
