Attorneys across the country are evaluating potential lawsuits on behalf of men who used the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra and were diagnosed with melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. A study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) found that men taking Viagra, available generically as sildenafil, were 84 percent more likely to develop melanoma than those who didn’t take the drug. In light of this information, attorneys are now looking into whether Pfizer, the maker of Viagra, knew about this risk and failed to provide proper warnings for its drug. If Pfizer failed to warn patients and doctors about the skin cancer risk, Viagra users who were diagnosed with melanoma may be able to file lawsuits against the company seeking compensation for medical bills and other damages.
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with melanoma after using Viagra, you may have valuable legal rights.
Study Finds Link Between Viagra and Skin Cancer
The JAMA study analyzed data from nearly 26,000 men, six percent of whom had used Viagra. According to the analysis, men currently taking the drug had an 84 percent increased risk of developing melanoma when compared to those who had never used Viagra. Men who had a history of Viagra use were twice as likely to develop the deadly skin cancer, the study found. This finding held true even when considering other risk factors for melanoma, including family history of skin cancer and ultraviolet light exposure.
How Can Filing a Lawsuit Help Me?
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with melanoma after using Viagra, a lawsuit can help provide you with an opportunity to seek compensation for damages related to the disease. These damages may include past and future medical bills, pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost wages and, in cases of death, funeral expenses and loss of projected earnings. By filing a lawsuit, you may also be able to hold Pfizer accountable for releasing a potentially dangerous drug into the marketplace.
