Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of a September 2024 recall of Stanley Jr. Kids Wheelbarrow and 7-piece Garden Sets.
In particular, the long handle hoe and rake from the Stanley Jr. garden kit, which is sold exclusively at Costco stores and on Costco.com, were found to contain excessive lead levels, posing a risk of poisoning in children. According to a recall notice from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), lead can be toxic if ingested by children and is linked to negative health effects.
The Stanley Jr. wheelbarrow set recall offers a free replacement of the long rake and hoe if a consumer fills out a form and uploads pictures of their disposal of the recalled garden tools, but it’s possible that a class action lawsuit could be filed to help consumers get their money back.

Stanley Jr. Costco Garden Set Recalled Over Lead Paint
On September 12, 2024, over 459,000 Stanley Jr. Kids Wheelbarrow and Garden Sets were recalled after the long hoe and rake were found to contain lead in levels that exceeded the federal lead paint ban.
The full Stanley Jr. gardening tool set includes a wheelbarrow, apron, gloves, rake, hoe and hand tools, but only the long handle rake and hoe, which have a yellow-painted wooden handle with the words “Stanley Jr.” painted in black, were found to contain excessive lead levels.
According to the CPSC, the recalled Stanley Jr. gardening set was sold at Costco stores and on Costco.com from February 2024 to June 2024 for about $35 each.
The official website for the Stanley Jr. Garden Set recall warns that consumers should immediately stop using the hoe and rake from the garden set, disassemble them and throw them away. The website also states that the affected garden tools should not be returned to Costco.
Through the recall website, consumers can register to receive a “similar product replacement” within 30 to 45 days by providing their name, address and contact information and uploading photos of their destroyed rake and hoe and an image of the sticker on the bottom of the wheelbarrow.
Refunds are not being offered as part of the Stanley Kids garden tools recall.
How Do I Know if My Stanley Jr. Garden Set Was Recalled?
Check the sticker on the bottom of the wheelbarrow, which should say “Red Toolbox” and a 12/2023 manufacturing date.
The recall website also indicates that the set can be identified by the SKU SGH021-08-SY and Costco Item Number 1662178.
