Attorneys are investigating whether a class action lawsuit can be filed on behalf of people who purchased Craftsman lawnmowers at Sears. It has been alleged that some of these lawnmowers are defective and can catch fire, even when used properly.
Homeowners Report Fires, Smoking Lawnmowers, Property Damage
Attorneys began an investigation after discovering that several people experienced problems with their Craftsman lawnmowers. It’s not yet certain how widespread these problems may be, but one homeowner has already reported that his lawnmower, upon catching fire, damaged a portion of his garage. Another complained that his lawnmower caught fire, possibly due to a compromised fuel line. Others have posted videos online of their Craftsman mowers catching fire, prompting some to share similar experiences. Comments include:
“My mom's craftsman just caught fire--it was 5yrs old...I sent you a video of my 76yr old mom telling the story and then show what's left of her mower!”
“Craftsman mowers catch on fire a lot, I'm not sure why, but two of my neighbors craftsman tractors caught on fire.”
Has There Been a Recall?
No recalls have been found for this particular lawnmower; however, a different make of Craftsman lawnmower has previously been recalled due to a fire risk. It was believed that the fire risk stemmed from problems with the lawnmowers’ fuel lines and their connections to the fuel tank outlet.
